The boys' and girls' teams were both in action last week. The boys travelled to Drogheda Grammar for a league match on Tues 14th. They met good opposition, and had to fight back to draw 1-1 with a goal by Juan in the second half. The team was not playing at its best, so in the circumstances we were pleased to split the points, leaving us with two wins and one draw in the league, with two or three matches still to play. The next day the girls travelled to St Columba's College for a friendly against a team of 1st and 2nd years. The...

Headfort v Drogheda Grammar Hockey

By | Sport

Fantastic performance today v Drogheda Grammar at home! Our girls dominated throughout, and scored two goals in each half. Ella controlled the game from Centre-Half, with able support all around. Julia scored a hat-trick: she had a great knack of being in the right place at the right time. Poppy and Nicole put plenty of pressure on the opposition goalie, with Poppy rewarded for her efforts with a well-taken goal. The entire team played very well indeed. DSD

Girls’ Hockey Match

By | Sport

DSD, Oct 2016 The girls’ team had its first outing this week against Cavan Royal School at home. It was a fabulous match — plenty of end-to-end action, good skills and three goals. Alas, Cavan scored two of the goals (one with the last hit of the match) so we lost 2-1. But despite the agony of losing in that fashion, there is a lot to be pleased about. Our girls played very well indeed, especially considering many of them are new to the game. Iona C made many good saves in goal, Scarlett O’D was a stalwart at the…

The First XI took part in the final of the under-13 C league competition on Wednesday 25th — their fourth final in the past six years. This year the format was new: a 4-way play-off with the two top teams from each division of the Leinster league. Our first match was against Dalkey School Project, who had well beaten us (4-0) in last year’s final. The Headfort players were nervous yet confident, and they played what was probably the match of the season. The Dalkey team placed a great deal of pressure on our goal, with several dangerous short-corners from…

Mixed XI hockey team to play in the final of the Leinster Under-13 C League

By | Events, Sport

The First XI (mixed) hockey team had a memorable 1-0 win on Monday 31st March against Taney National School in the semi-final of the Leinster Under-13 C league. It should have been a home match, but our grass was not up to the challenge after a lot of rain, so we played on Mercy Convent’s grit pitch. Taney are a fine team (and they beat us in quite a one-sided semi-final in 2013). Our team had to play well above themselves to achieve the win. Yuri, our captain and goalkeeper, was unable to play (having injured himself playing football) and…

Girls Under 12’s AIJS Hockey Tournament

By | News, Sport
On Wednesday 17th November a squad of 12 of our girls travelled to Mount Anville School in Dublin to participate in the annual Under 12's 8-aside hockey tournament. There were more than 22 teams participating, divided into 5 groups of 4 or 5 teams. Headfort was drawn with St Gerard's, St Killian's and Notre Dame. The first tie with St Gerard's was tough, but the girls were determined to win and scored a goal to which the opposition failed to respond. Against St Killian's we spent most of the match around their circle and numerous shots on goals went tantalizingly...
