Rugby Match Report V St. Columba’s

V St. Columba’s College, Wednesday 3rd December

Headfort won 19-7

A very large and well organised Columba’s team turned up for this much-anticipated return match. A hotly contested forward display laid the foundations for a fine team display. Our forwards rucked exceptionally well, turning over plenty of ball for the backs to use. The St. Columba’s defence was solid and gaps were hard to find. Javi S pounced on a handling error and crossed the line for the opening try; Tobias V converted. The pack recycled ball well and played through phases, piling on the pressure. Côme du F crashed over for our second try just before half time; Tobias V converted again.

St. Columba’s came back fighting after half time, winning more 50/50 ball than they had in the first half. Their pressure paid off as they opened their account with a break-away try under the posts. We fought back well and produced some nice passages of play, although we were starting to struggle to win enough ball to play with. Our final try came from a messy St. Columba’s line out which Oliver T touched down among the confusion.

It was a solid performance resulting in a well deserved win.
