The girls’ hockey team made it to the play-off stages of their under-13 competition, which took place yesterday. The team faced both Cavan Royal and Dundalk Grammar. The match with Cavan saw end-to-end play, with plenty of scoring chances for both teams but no goal going in. Dundalk proved too strong for us, netting four goals with none in response from us. Hence, the team had to settle for third place – yet the girls can be proud of a fine season in which they scored more goals than they conceded and won more games than they lost. Ella captained the team with verve and strength, and motivated the other girls to raise their game. The team played exciting, spirited hockey and were great fun to coach.
