The match is to be played against the Dalkey School Project and will take place at 12.00 noon at St. Columba’s College (on their bottom pitch, ie the pitch to the right near their gym). Come and support the boys! DSD

The girls’ hockey team made it to the play-off stages of their under-13 competition, which took place yesterday. The team faced both Cavan Royal and Dundalk Grammar. The match with Cavan saw end-to-end play, with plenty of scoring chances for both teams but no goal going in. Dundalk proved too strong for us, netting four goals with none in response from us. Hence, the team had to settle for third place – yet the girls can be proud of a fine season in which they scored more goals than they conceded and won more games than they lost. Ella captained the…

Another good win by the girls today, defeating Wilson’s Hospital 6-1 away from home. Two goals each from Julia and Poppy, one from Constance and a stunner from Ella who again was the dominant player on the pitch. Iona did very well in goal, Scarlett was strong in defence, and really all the players gave of their best. DSD
The boys had a great win yesterday at home, beating Sutton Park 3-0. Juan scored two, the second one a beauty as he trapped a fast ball from George before turning and finding the corner of the net. Hugh scored the third. It was end-to-end action, with George controlling the game from Centre-Half, Patrick ferocious as always at the back (and firing mighty passes upfield), Akin tireless in midfield. A second clean sheet for John in goal. We are two for two in the league. DSD

Both the girls’ and the boys’ hockey teams saw league action this week. The girls beat Mercy Convent 4-0 and never looked in much trouble despite being ahead only by one goal at half time. Goals came from Julia (2), Nicole and Poppy, with Ella as usual steering the team’s effort from Centre-Half. This was Iona’s second clean-sheet in goal. The boys meanwhile defeated St Mark’s School 2-0, both goals being scored by Hugh. It was a very pleasing performance for a first match. George led his team ably from Centre-Half, with Patrick dominating the opposition in defence, Akin always…
Peter Bamford who died on January 3rd 2017 was born in 1926 at Oakley Park in Kells, the seat of his maternal grandparents. He became a luminary in the middle years of Headfort’s history. Peter’s father, Wilfred, a nephew of the previous rector of Kells, fought in the 1st World War, and in 1921 began work as a railway engineer in Nigeria. On leave the following year, he married Evelyn, née Bomford (pronounced Bumford). For a quarter of a century Wilfred served eighteen-month tours in Nigeria. Children were not allowed on tour, so Evelyn spent part of her time at…
Fantastic performance today v Drogheda Grammar at home! Our girls dominated throughout, and scored two goals in each half. Ella controlled the game from Centre-Half, with able support all around. Julia scored a hat-trick: she had a great knack of being in the right place at the right time. Poppy and Nicole put plenty of pressure on the opposition goalie, with Poppy rewarded for her efforts with a well-taken goal. The entire team played very well indeed. DSD
