The board would like to announce the appointment of Dr Mary Wall as Headmistress of Headfort School.
Dr Mary Wall is currently Academic Deputy Head at Mount House School in North London.
A member of a well known Limerick sporting family Mary was educated at St Patrick’s and later St Joseph’s Secondary Schools in County Limerick before going on to NUI Galway where she studied Science. Post graduation she completed her PhD in Genetics also from NUI Galway.
From there she spent 4 years of Post Doc Research in St Thomas Hospital London prior to taking her PGCE at the University of Hertfordshire.
Dr Wall has 18 years of teaching experience in the UK and has taught at 4 different schools including as a Tutor at Harrow School before joining her present school in 2006 where in the past 12 years she has risen to the position of Deputy Head. She has contacts in both the Irish and UK education systems.
Mary has a proven track record of interacting with children and pupils in all age ranges. Sensitive, realistic ,calm, she is able to generate enthusiasm among her charges. Over the past 18 months Mount House her present school has been actively increasing its pupil numbers and Mary has been at the forefront of that marketing drive. She has been involved in creating innovative strategies for getting the school known in the wider market place as well as being instrumental in raising the Schools Academic profile in the community. She played a key role in winning recognition from the regulatory authorities of the high educational standards in the school.
Mary is married to Colin and they have two children. Her daughter is in her final year at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London where she is reading History of Art and her son started his degree in September 2018 where he is reading Politics and International Studies at the University of Sussex. Her husband who is semi retired has extensive experience implementing ,evaluating and managing databases. He also plays guitar in a band and she enjoys attending their gigs. She is a keen walker and has taken part in Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.
