Girls are Runners-up in the Hockey Meath League

Well, it was not to be! The girls got to the final of the Under-13 Meath and District League, but were well beaten (3-0) yesterday by a Dundalk Grammar team that they had beaten 2-0 earlier in the season. They gave it their best shot, but things did not go right on the day. Their coach (me) has made them play too many matches these last two weeks! Yesterday the hockey First XI took part in play-offs to decide the Under 13 C league. Headfort had won the competition in 2015 and were keen to repeat the performance. Well, it was not to be. Still, it was an exciting afternoon of hockey during which the Headfort players gave of their very best — and secured third place. First XI Hockey in the finals of the Under 13 C league

This coming Wednesday (9th March) the mixed First XI will take part in final play-offs in the Under 13 C league competition that they won last year for the first time. Matches will be played at Wesley College (near Dundrum), and the first match will be at 2.15. The opposition will consist of the following schools: Dundalk Grammar, Taney and Whitechurch.

Girls’ Hockey Trip to Belfast

The Girls’ squad travelled to Belfast last week to play two matches: versus Methodist College on Friday and Bloomfield Collegiate on Saturday. Methody’s A team were very strong indeed, and in the circumstances our girls did well to limit the loss to 6-0 (three goals in each half). The team never gave up despite facing a master-class.
