On Friday 5th December, Mary Kelly and I brought the children of Lower 5, less Katie T whom we very much missed, on a hike along the Monaghan Way from outside Carrickmacross to Castleblayney along the Ulster border. This was a 21 km hike over an interesting variety of ground and the weather was set to be perfect; we anticipated clear skies and temperatures of about 4 or 5 degrees, ideal walking weather. V St. Columba’s College, Wednesday 3rd December Headfort won 19-7 A very large and well organised Columba’s team turned up for this much-anticipated return match. A hotly contested forward display laid the foundations for a fine team display. Our forwards rucked exceptionally well, turning over plenty of ball for the backs to use. The St. Columba’s defence was solid and gaps were hard to find. Javi S pounced on a handling error and crossed the line for the opening try; Tobias V converted.
